ILT to eLearning Conversion Checklist

Every step from session audit through to LMS launch — track each module's conversion progress and communicate clearly with stakeholders throughout the project.

What's Inside the Checklist

ILT-to-eLearning conversions fail at the production stage more often than the design stage — unclear review processes, scope creep, and missed steps. This checklist runs each session through every required step and gives you a status dashboard across the full programme.

01

Phase 1: Session Audit (Per Module)

Run each ILT session through the conversion triage — identify whether to convert fully, partially, or retain as ILT. Document the decision and rationale for each module.

Content stability assessment (changes frequently?)
Real-time interaction requirement check
Audience size and distribution assessment
Conversion decision: Full / Partial / Keep ILT
SME and stakeholder aligned on decision
Source materials collected and reviewed
02

Phase 2: Objective Rewrite (Per Module)

Rewrite all ILT learning objectives from facilitation language to individual measurable outcomes. Each rewritten objective must include an action verb and a testable performance standard.

All objectives rewritten with action verbs
Each objective is testable and measurable
Assessment type identified per objective
SME has approved revised objectives
Module scope confirmed (duration and depth)
Prerequisite knowledge requirements documented
03

Phase 3: Content Redesign & Storyboard

Redesign the content for self-paced delivery — not just narrated slides. Every screen needs to work as a standalone learning unit. Document all activity conversions.

Content chunked to 3–5 min per screen
All slides rewritten to work without a presenter
Group activities mapped to eLearning equivalents
Role plays converted to branching scenarios
Storyboard complete and reviewed by ID lead
SME sign-off on storyboard content accuracy
04

Phase 4: Production (Alpha → Beta → Gold)

Track each module through the three production stages. Each stage has defined review criteria and required sign-offs before proceeding.

Alpha build complete (content correct, no polish)
Alpha review by ID and SME complete
Media produced and integrated (Beta build)
Beta review by L&D lead and end-user complete
All review comments addressed and signed off
Gold master produced and QA-verified
05

Phase 5: LMS Upload & Launch

Verify every technical requirement before releasing to learners — SCORM/xAPI packaging, completion conditions, pass scores, and enrolment setup.

Module published to correct SCORM/xAPI version
Completion condition set and tested in LMS
Pass score configured (if assessed module)
Enrolment rules and auto-assignment configured
Learner notification email tested
Manager reporting access confirmed and tested

Also Included

Activity Conversion Reference + Programme Status Dashboard

The checklist includes a quick-reference activity conversion table (ILT activity → eLearning equivalent) and a programme-level status dashboard that shows which modules are at each phase — useful for stakeholder reporting.
